William Carey was driven by a historic vision. In 1793, shortly after arriving in India, he urged the Baptist Missionary Society to expand its efforts: “South America, and all the numerous and large islands in the India and China seas, I hope will not be passed over.”

Under the weight of his missionary vision, the world's vast distances seemed to shrink, and the opportunities for the gospel appeared larger than ever.

“A large field opens on every side. Oh, that many labourers may be thrust out into the vineyard of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Now, at he beginning of a new missionary era, a similar opportunity presensts itself in Argentina and Latin America.

For much of the modern missionary movement, missionary sending was dominated by Europe and North America. However, in the late twentieth century, the center of global Christianity shifted decisively toward the Global South. Today, the majority of the world’s Christians live in Africa, Asia, and Latin America rather than in Europe or North America.

Within this broader transformation, Latin America has emerged as a significant missionary-sending region.

Missions have shifted from “the West to the rest” to “everywhere to everywhere.”
